thoughts for today
If you love what you do, you just do it. Do it no matter what.

modern pb & J

Same old fixings. New price. I was on a layover flight in Detroit, starved of course, and in my decision between Subways and a stand that only sells peanut butter and jelly - I choose the pb&j.

Cycle Skateboards "Made With Love"

Rodney and Lizzie from the shop and I had the chance to be at the Cycle Skateboards’ “Made With Love” art exhibit at the Space Gallery two weeks ago. It was a great day with beautifully designed and laser cut cruiser decks. Decks by Cycle Skateboards are sourced and crafted locally from San Francisco. The live music by Audiopharmacy and friends was also vibrant and lasted throughout the evening. Great work by Kotaro, Han, Sheyen, and Jaiv 1!

Longboarding Lifestyle Shoot
Great work done by French cinematographers and photographers Nicolas Guittard, Guilhem Machenaud, and Thomas Bevilacqua. They produced a short lifestyle piece for the French company Oxelo while in San Francisco. I never thought I'd end up in a beautiful piece like this. Simon and Sebastian (team riders) had approached our skateshop at the end of the day in search for girls to ride in their longboarding lifestyle piece. In the end my friend Sophia, her friend Sylvia, and I ended up shooting for the day. It was a beautiful afternoon cruising down hills, riding along the Great Highway, and having dinner in the Mission with our new French friends. They've been traveling all over the world and filming. Definitely worth checking out the rest of the videos. Happy travels to Fleur, Simon, Sebastian, Nicolas, Guilhem, and Thomas!

Lemon Lavender Marmalade
On our last leg of our skate tour to Southern California we stopped at Erica’s family’s beautiful home in Ojai, California. Among the succulents, cacti, and fruits were sweet orange and lemon trees. We gathered and gathered.
I knew exactly what I’d use these homegrown lemons for. Amelia, a fellow Kitchen Sisters Intern, had made us lemon lavender jam as holiday presents. It was so delicious, that I used it sparingly each morning on my daily toast so that it would last longer. You can find her recipe here at thewayfinders.org, which I used and it resulted in something that looked like jam without any additives. So, I guess my first time making jam was relatively successful. Plus canning is pretty fun and simple. You can find various sizes of canning jars at Ace Hardware or your local variety store.
(Photographs from top to bottom: Handmade tags to go with the marmalade. Finished batch of marmalade in a 4 oz jar, the lemon tree where the lemons came from in Ojai California, and bags of juicy lemons)
